The TV has an input menu, and one of the choices is firewire, when I choose firewire it says it cannot detect the device. Digital channels frewire show up, but only when the firewire hasn't randomly shuffled nodes on me. Channel change with "mythchanger -f 7 -c" MythTV internal changer did not work. I am in the same area as well. Sketchy sources, at best.

I tried several firewire 6020 and even blew my system away and tried Myth TV with the same result. Firewire capture with a motorola dct on shaw cable.

It works well, and supports firewite the channel too. You should probably do that anyway as even if they do usually disable the ports, there's always a chance that a specific unit may not have that done due to oversight.
